Gertjan Kamerik

Over twenty years ago Gertjan graduated from the Transport Academy in Tilburg. While he was still a student he already got a taste of public transport as a trainee at passenger association Rover, at regional transport company NZH and at the municipal transport company GVB in Amsterdam. Gertjan originally comes from the southwest of the Netherlands, but his first job at the transport department of the city of Bussum would prove to be the beginning of a permanent relocation to the northern Randstad. After several years at the city of Bussum he made the leap from urban transport planning to public transport and started working in the marketing department of the Uithoorn subsidiary of transport company Centraal Nederland. His first assignments pertained to transport and network planning. Later he would move on to product development and account management. At a relatively early stage of his career Gertjan was already breaking down boundaries with his comprehensive multimodal approach to transport, thus anticipating and contributing to a major new trend.

When Centraal Nederland merged with transport company NZH, an important turning point had arrived for Gertjan also. He switched to the world of consulting and started working at AVM, a consultancy company in the field of mobility. In this period Gertjan focused heavily on mobility management. Thanks to his experience in urban transport planning, public transport and consulting Gertjan soon found himself to be an all-round mobility expert. Just before the turn of the century he decided to make another leap and start his own consultancy company, offering his services and skills to authorities and transport companies. After assignments at the cities of Haarlem, Lelystad and Rijswijk and the province of Flevoland, he ultimately joined forces with the province of North Holland. Here he would become a stalwart assistant. Exciting projects include project management of the innovative GOVI public transport digital information scheme and the so-called Amsterdam Metropolitan Network, a special brand for the most important PT links in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.

In 2004 Gertjan saw a major gap in the market. Nobody had thought of using the new information technology that had become available in recent years to measure and determine route timing. Route timing has always been a controversial subject in the Netherlands, as it touches on service quality, work conditions and operating efficiency. Gertjan founded Datacount, a company that uses GPS technology for measuring punctuality, analyzing bottlenecks and optimizing timetables. Datacount is now a highly regarded niche player on the Dutch Public Transport scene. On the 1st of January 2009 Gertjan took another decisive step as an entrepreneur. Together with Fred van der Blij and Rudy Schoonveld he took over TransTec and set out on a mission to establish TransTec as THE independent consultancy company and expertise centre for public transport in the Netherlands.

Gertjan has an enthusiastic, passionate and creative personality. He has a sixth sense when it comes to detecting the talents of people and has mastered the ability to help people develop their skills. He likes to put his shoulders under ambitious projects and focus on the quality of solutions, feasibility and on making projects acceptable to all stakeholders, including the general public.
